The new EMM landscape

June 17, 2020

Mobility

EMM essentially simplifies the connection of mobile devices to the corporate network. And while in the first stages of BYOD, companies might have needed a way to connect a variety of different devices both easily and quickly, increased competition and customer needs have forced the EMM market to change for the better. Read below to find out the changes that led to a new landscape this year.

The domination of BYOD

It appears that an increasing number of businesses are discovering the value of BYOD, as indicated by the anticipated average annual increase rate of 22% that this market is expected to have till 2023. Increased mobility is not only required in the context of digital transformation, but also by employees asking for improved flexibility that would enable them to manage their personal and working schedules more efficiently. As a result of the demand from both executives and employees, the popularity of BYOD (and the relevant management systems) will continue to grow this year as well. In this context, EMM solutions offer efficient ways for managing mobile devices, improving safety and offering control even beyond the corporate firewall, and thus fully responding to the needs of employees.

The wearables trend

The adoption of smartwatches, smart glasses and wearables by the business world is expected to exponentially grow in the next decade. Businesses have already seen the benefits that wearables have to offer, especially when it comes to productivity and efficiency. And as these devices evolve, so does the business world’s attitude towards EMM and digital transformation in general.

On the other hand, businesses will be called to rethink the way they are managing their applications as well, and not just their devices, since wearable platforms are different than other device platforms and can be synchronized with specialized applications, which means that there will be a need to control and approve such applications within the business environment, in order to avoid any security gaps.

IoT becomes mainstream

Smart sensors may already have a strong presence in manufacturing, but it seems that other industries are gradually starting to understand their significance. Digital transformation is largely dependent on data collection, analysis and utilization in business challenges, so the chances of more businesses rushing to integrate IoT technologies are constantly increasing.

And while many may initially think that IoT is all, and only, about smart sensors, the reality is that the definition of this technology includes any device that is connected to a network. Printers, automated lighting systems, etc., can theoretically lead to security risks, especially when such devices are portable and are regularly used outside the corporate network.

In many cases, business executives install smart devices without any formal approval. With EMM, businesses will be able to identify IoT devices more easily and apply the necessary security settings for the protection of their data.
