Trends & Views

Enterprise Mobility is evolving into an important tool that supports business development. In fact, it is a trend that has become a priority for many businesses, especially in terms of customer engagement and workforce mobilization. Even though it is not easy to make predictions, we can identify some interesting trends for 2018.

The potential of IoT

The Internet of Things essentially refers to a number of interconnected “things”, which also include people. Enterprises are adopting and implementing IoT at a rapid pace. The total number of IoT devices is expected to surpass that of mobile devices by 2018, while it is estimated that by 2021 broadband connections will reach 7.7 billion, mobile connections 9 billion and smartphone subscriptions 6.3 billion.

As connection expenses are diminishing, broadband internet is expanding and so is the number of devices that support Wi-Fi. If you factor in the market penetration of smartphones, you have an ideal environment for IoT development. Consequently, IoT is expected to have a strong influence on Enterprise Mobility solutions, with whatever that might entail for its development.

The role of AI

Artificial Intelligence which, in a few words, can be described as applications that are designed to interact with people and act based on that interaction, is constantly developing in the field of computing. Within the next year, it is possible that we will witness the actualization of AI’s potential in Enterprise Mobility, which will result in the saving of valuable employee time, who can then focus on other tasks.

Fast cloud adaptation

Cloud-based services are becoming more and more important in the business environment, thanks to the versatility, availability and cost-effectiveness they offer. Even though many businesses remain reluctant because of security issues, the advancements in this field are beginning to dramatically change the landscape, resulting in increased demand for cloud solutions. The same applies in the case of Enterprise Mobility, which largely depends on cloud developments.

The BYOD trend

The business world has successfully adopted the BYOD mentality, since it has greatly improved both efficiency and productivity. This means that BYOD is more than just a trend, having transformed the workplace, since more and more businesses are turning towards it.

This year, we’re expecting to see more and more businesses adopting the BYOD trend in their work culture. However, businesses should pay close attention to the security issues that arise, since the devices that employees bring with them, do not possess the security features that are mandatory for on-premise devices. This restriction puts pressure on IT departments to focus on the security of such devices. The answer to this issue has been provided by Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions that are widely used and create a safety net, enabling businesses to take full advantage of the BYOD trend.
